Interview with Maja Ancevska, Human Resources specialist

A1 Macedonia offers development and opportunity for young people to make the leap from intern to employee


A1 Macedonia is constantly working on creating new solutions, introducing new activities and practices, innovative products and channels for communication with customers, and they are realized in a unique way. The company sets itself in a unique way and when it comes to employees, new practices are constantly introduced that contribute to their motivation, productivity, better balance between private time and time spent at work, practices that encourage learning and career advancement.

Starting from the innovative approach to placing ads, the way of conducting interviews, employment and internship opportunities, A1 Macedonia is certainly a company that opens the doors of its world to young and promising professionals. Shortly after their beginnings, 29 young talents who started as interns took a step in their career and officially became employees and part of the large family of A1 Macedonia. 

We talk about their experience and the path they have taken with Maja Anchevska, Human Resources Specialist, and also a recruiter when it comes to new talents in A1 Macedonia. 


What are the opportunities that A1 Macedonia offers to young people, especially those who have no work experience and want to take the first steps in their career as interns?

Being an intern is a huge challenge, it is one of the first steps that young people take in their career, i.e. the first step they climb to gain experience. A1 Macedonia as a company with over 1000 employees offers huge learning opportunities, and at the same time it is part of our corporate culture. What I first get as feedback from interns is the challenge of being part of different teams that are unique in themselves in terms of expertise, personal and professional experience, character traits, and even a sense of humor. Our teams are always friendly and have a desire to share their experience, so it gives young people a sense of security, the opportunity to build their own corner and leave a mark on the work. The mentoring program is also part of our company, so exchanging experiences with other departments is not excluded. For some of our colleagues who started as interns, this is not a new experience for them, but as they say themselves, A1 Macedonia has moved the criteria for the description of the internship position, a company that cares, that nurtures true values and is proud of its employees. 


Given that A1 Macedonia is constantly introducing new practices and benefits for employees, do young people easily fit into the new, different environment?

All the new practices we introduce are a benefit for the employees, so it is very easy to fit in and enjoy the benefits, whether you are already part of the company or you come from a completely different environment.
When you read what a company has to offer its employees and when you experience it, the impressions are different. The beginnings are always the most exciting, so the point of view as a beginner intern and is now different, but I believe that they are already using the benefits that the company offers. All employees, including interns, had the opportunity to face new flexible learning tools, a modern work environment with technologically advanced tools for work and mutual communication, work-from-home practices, a whole new trend world in which they can simultaneously be committed to work and private responsibilities, while also having the opportunity to define their pace of work, learning and development.


What is the biggest incentive for interns and young talents who have no experience but a desire to learn and progress?

As I mentioned, being an intern is a great start for all those who want new experiences and knowledge. A1 Macedonia always opens its doors to those who want to build their career path correctly, step by step. I believe that what moves young interns or new employees forward is the feeling that they are contributing to A1 Macedonia, that they are part of the big picture, strategy and culture, an incentive for the digital way of life and innovative ways of working. Working for such a large number of clients and creating "behind the scenes", and at the same time leaving a mark on the existence of the company is a real motivation for young and ambitious potentials. 
We are part of an international company that is led by trust, teamwork and agile way of working. It has never been easier to exchange expert knowledge as part of a large group or to work in cross-division teams and international projects or to have the latest technologies in the field, but what is special about this company is the celebration of mutual success and achievements. This is done in a unique A1 way.


What do you advise young people, all those who are in a dilemma when it comes to internships, what is the key to success?

How to succeed? Just take the first step and make things happen. It is important to recognize the opportunity and reciprocate, to have a desire to learn and to become future experts in a certain field. That which A1 Macedonia can certainly offer, is work with experienced experts, the opportunity to work on creating new solutions, researching new things and realizing them. The road to success is driven by ideas, results and mutual respect, but not hierarchy. The word intern is something that is written on a piece of paper, and you will be completely convinced of that when you enter your first meeting and get your first job assignments. Have confidence in yourself and start building your path.
